Robert Kiyosaki, the American author of “Rich Dad Poor Dad” said business is the one that can make your money work for you. I define business as that which you engages your resources in for adequate reward. You reap as you sow, no cheating. Your business makes use of what you have or what you can have. It does not ask for what you don’t have before satisfying you.

You control your business; your business does not control you. Remember, the employer controls the employee. Ultimately, it leads to financial freedom. Normally, your business should outlive you. What then is your own business? It is the one that you enjoy and is fun rather than work. In my own case, getting knowledge, impacting knowledge is just natural to me. And that is my business.

It is one thing I will protect jealously in my life, that is my first consideration as to whether I should take a job or not. Anything I will do, anywhere I will go that will hinder me from updating my existing knowledge, gathering current information and using it to motivate and encourage others, I will not do such no matter how much money you promise me.

There may be things that give money but do not give joy and fulfillment and satisfaction. Even when I had to take up a paid job, I did primarily to prepare a platform for my own business. As much as godliness demands that I should do my duties on the job with all diligence and satisfy my employer, I must not also forget my own goal for living, my business. I use opportunities provided to me daily for that end.
You too have many untapped talents that you can use to start and grow your own business, on full time or part time basis. Start by making a list of your hobbies and interests.

The first job I took after my Youth Service was the one that paid little money and without a promise of something fantastic in the nearest future. In fact, my monthly salary was less than the total of my local and federal allowances during the NYSC service year. My focus then was not the money but how the job will help me to start from somewhere and equip myself for business life, a life of satisfaction and fulfillment. How it was going to lead me to financial liberty was very important to me. Of course, what I am doing today might not have been possible if I had started with a banking job.

To a business minded person, money is not the first factor. If you grow your own business your business will give you all the money you need and give you freedom with it.

Less I forget to mention this: you cannot be rich working for somebody. You may have so much money to spend as an employee. The day you lose that job, you will discover you have been a poor person all the while.
